Introducing The Toronto Runner

Before I start (b)logging my runs, here's a little about me:

My name's Dave (hi!). I'm 26. I live in mid-town Toronto, near Yonge & Davisville, with my beautiful girlfriend Caralin. I work full-time in the communications/PR field, and running is my way of blowing off steam from work.

I've been running now for about five years, on and off. I originally ran very casually, once or twice a week if that. I started running more regularly - two or three times a week - around 2004, but it wasn't until 2004 when some colleagues persuaded me to run the Rock & Roll 5k (now called the Nissan Toronto 5k) and I got hooked.

Since then I've run a bunch of races including, for the last two years, the Cabot Trail Relay out in Nova Scotia (team name: Cardio Arrest), which is now a highlight of my running year.

The Cabot Trail Relay is, in fact, the only race I've run in the last year. In classic newbie style, I over-trained last year and injured myself. After running personal bests in the 5k, half-marathon and marathon last spring, I developed problems with my IT band in June 2006, which dog me to this day.

It's been a long road back already, with several relapses. So far I've pulled out of Chicago 2006 and defered my entry for Boston 2007. This time I hope to be back in it for the long haul.

My target now: my first Boston Marathon, in 2008.

Welcome To The Toronto Runner!

Welcome to The Toronto Runner!

If you're a runner in Toronto, you'll enjoy this blog. I'll chronicle my ups and downs as I return from a long-term running injury, get back into shape, and train for my next race.

While I live in the Yonge & Davisville area of Toronto, I plan to get out and run as much of the city as I can. If you have any suggestions for routes, please let me know and I'll try them out!
